Balao-Class Submarine
The Balao-Class Submarine was a type of submarine used by the United States Navy during World War II. Designed for long-range patrols, these submarines were an improvement over the earlier Gato-Class Submarine, featuring a longer hull and increased diving depth. They were equipped with torpedoes and had the capability to engage enemy ships effectively.
A total of 120 Balao-class submarines were built, and they played a significant role in the Pacific Theater. Many of these submarines were named after fish, reflecting the Navy's tradition. The class remained in service for several decades, contributing to naval operations during the Cold War.
