Gargoyles
Gargoyles are decorative stone figures often found on buildings, particularly cathedrals and castles. They typically depict grotesque faces or figures and serve a practical purpose by directing rainwater away from the sides of the structure, preventing erosion.
Historically, gargoyles date back to ancient civilizations, but they became especially popular during the Gothic architectural period in the Middle Ages. While many people associate them with supernatural themes, their primary function was functional rather than symbolic.
