Ganesh Festival
The Ganesh Festival, also known as Ganesh Chaturthi, is a Hindu celebration that honors Lord Ganesha, the elephant-headed deity of wisdom and prosperity. This festival typically lasts for 10 days, starting in the month of Bhadrapada (August-September) according to the lunar calendar. Devotees create colorful idols of Ganesha, decorate homes, and offer prayers and sweets, particularly modaks, which are believed to be Ganesha's favorite.
The festival culminates in a grand immersion ceremony, where the idols are taken in processions to rivers or seas for immersion, symbolizing the cycle of birth and rebirth. The Ganesh Festival fosters community spirit, cultural expression, and devotion, making it one of the most vibrant celebrations in India, especially in states like Maharashtra.
