Gamma Velorum A is a bright star located in the constellation Vela, which is part of the larger Argo Navis constellation. It is classified as a blue giant star, indicating that it is much larger and hotter than our Sun. Gamma Velorum A is approximately 1,000 light-years away from Earth and has a surface temperature of around 25,000 Kelvin.
This star is part of a binary system, meaning it has a companion star, known as Gamma Velorum B. Together, they are often referred to as Gamma Velorum. The two stars orbit each other, and their combined brightness makes Gamma Velorum one of the most prominent stars in the night sky.
