Galette des Rois
Galette des Rois is a traditional French pastry enjoyed during the celebration of Epiphany, which occurs on January 6th. This round cake is typically made of flaky puff pastry filled with almond cream, known as frangipane. It symbolizes the arrival of the three wise men to visit the baby Jesus.
In many families, a small figurine or a feve is hidden inside the galette. The person who finds the figurine is crowned king or queen for the day and is often responsible for hosting the next celebration. This festive treat is popular in France and other French-speaking regions during the holiday season.
