Galápagos Iguana
The Galápagos Iguana, also known as the Marine Iguana, is a unique species found only in the Galápagos Islands. It is the only lizard in the world that has adapted to a marine lifestyle, feeding primarily on algae found on underwater rocks. These iguanas can dive up to 30 feet to forage for food and have specialized salt glands to excrete excess salt from their bodies.
With a robust body and a long tail, the Galápagos Iguana can grow up to 5 feet in length. Their coloration varies from black to greenish hues, helping them blend into their rocky surroundings. They are excellent swimmers and are often seen basking on the shores to regulate their body temperature.
