Marine Iguana
The Marine Iguana is a unique species of lizard found only on the Galápagos Islands. It is known for its ability to swim and forage in the ocean, primarily feeding on algae. These iguanas have a flattened tail and webbed feet, which help them navigate through water. Their coloration varies, often appearing dark or grayish, allowing them to absorb heat from the sun.
Unlike other iguanas, the Marine Iguana has adapted to a marine lifestyle. They can dive up to 30 feet to find food and can hold their breath for up to an hour. This remarkable adaptation makes them the only lizard in the world that spends significant time in the sea.
