Freytag's pyramid
Freytag's pyramid is a visual representation of the structure of a story, created by German writer Gustav Freytag in the 19th century. It divides a narrative into five key parts: exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution. This model helps to illustrate how a story develops and builds tension.
The exposition introduces the characters, setting, and background information. The rising action presents conflicts and challenges that lead to the climax, the story's most intense moment. Following the climax, the falling action shows the consequences of the climax, leading to the resolution, where the story concludes and conflicts are resolved.
