Freedom Schools
Freedom Schools are educational programs that aim to provide students with a safe and supportive environment to learn about their rights and history, particularly focusing on the experiences of African Americans. These schools often emphasize critical thinking, social justice, and community engagement, encouraging students to explore their identities and the world around them.
Originally established during the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960s, Freedom Schools sought to combat educational inequality and empower young people. Today, they continue to operate in various communities, offering summer programs and after-school activities that promote literacy, leadership, and civic involvement.
