Free Software Foundation
The Free Software Foundation (FSF) is a nonprofit organization founded in 1985 by Richard Stallman. Its primary mission is to promote computer users' rights to use, study, copy, and modify software. The FSF advocates for the use of free software, which is software that grants users these freedoms, as opposed to proprietary software that restricts access to its source code.
The FSF also supports the development of free software projects and campaigns against software patents and digital rights management (DRM). By raising awareness about the importance of software freedom, the FSF aims to create a more equitable digital environment for all users.
