Frederick Philipse
Frederick Philipse was a prominent colonial figure in the 17th century, known for his role as a landowner and merchant in the New York area. Born in Holland around 1626, he immigrated to New Amsterdam and became one of the wealthiest individuals in the region, acquiring vast tracts of land along the Hudson River.
As a loyal supporter of the British crown, Philipse was granted a large estate, which later became known as the Philipse Manor. His influence extended into politics, where he served as a member of the New York colonial assembly. After his death in 1702, his estate was inherited by his descendants, who continued to play significant roles in the region's history.
