Franklin Pierce
Franklin Pierce was the 14th President of the United States, serving from 1853 to 1857. Born on November 23, 1804, in Hillsborough, New Hampshire, he was a member of the Democratic Party and previously held positions such as a U.S. Congressman and Senator. His presidency is often noted for its focus on territorial expansion and the controversial Kansas-Nebraska Act, which heightened tensions over slavery.
Pierce's administration struggled with issues related to sectionalism and the growing divide between the North and South. Despite his efforts to maintain peace, his policies alienated many, leading to a decline in support. He did not seek re-election in 1856 and returned to private life after his presidency, passing away on October 8, 1869.
