Francis of Assisi
Francis of Assisi was an Italian friar and preacher born in 1181. He is best known for founding the Franciscan Order, which emphasizes a life of poverty, humility, and service to others. Francis had a deep love for nature and animals, often referring to them as his brothers and sisters, which reflects his belief in the interconnectedness of all creation.
He is also recognized for his commitment to peace and reconciliation, particularly during a time of conflict in the Crusades. Francis's teachings and lifestyle inspired many, leading to his canonization as a saint by the Catholic Church in 1228, just two years after his death.
