Dominic of Guzmán
Dominic of Guzmán was a Spanish priest and the founder of the Order of Preachers, commonly known as the Dominicans. Born in 1170 in Caleruega, Spain, he dedicated his life to preaching and combating heresy. He emphasized the importance of education and established a community of friars committed to study and preaching the Gospel.
Dominic's work led to the rapid growth of the Dominican Order, which became known for its scholarly approach to theology and its commitment to social justice. He died in 1221 and was canonized as a saint by Pope Gregory IX in 1234, celebrated for his contributions to the Church and society.
