Four Kings of Heaven
The "Four Kings of Heaven" are celestial beings in Buddhism and Hinduism who protect the world and maintain order. Each king governs a specific direction: Dhritarashtra in the east, Virudhaka in the south, Virupaksha in the west, and Vaisravana in the north. They are often depicted as powerful warriors and are associated with various attributes and symbols.
In Buddhist tradition, these kings are also seen as guardians of the Buddha and his teachings. They are commonly represented in art and sculpture, often standing at the entrances of temples to ward off evil spirits and protect the faithful. Their roles emphasize the importance of protection and balance in the universe.
