Four Heavenly Kings
The "Four Heavenly Kings" are figures in Buddhism who protect the world and uphold the teachings of the Buddha. Each king is associated with a cardinal direction: Vaiśravaṇa in the north, Virūḍhaka in the south, Dhrtarāstra in the east, and Kumāra in the west. They are often depicted as fierce warriors, guarding the Buddhist faith and ensuring the safety of the realm.
In addition to their protective roles, the Four Heavenly Kings are also seen as guardians of the Dharma, the moral law in Buddhism. They are commonly represented in temples and art, symbolizing strength and vigilance against evil forces. Their presence serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining peace and order in the world.
