Four Great Kings
The "Four Great Kings" are four celestial beings in Buddhism who protect the world and uphold the teachings of the Buddha. Each king governs a specific direction: Vaiśravaṇa (North), Virūḍhaka (South), Dhrtarāṣṭra (East), and Vaśavartin (West). They are often depicted in art and statues as fierce warriors, symbolizing strength and protection.
These kings are also associated with various elements and virtues. For instance, Vaiśravaṇa is linked to wealth and prosperity, while Dhrtarāṣṭra represents the safeguarding of the Dharma. Devotees often pray to the Four Great Kings for guidance and protection in their lives.
