Fortifications of Vauban
The Fortifications of Vauban are a series of military structures designed by the French engineer Vauban in the 17th century. These fortifications were built to enhance the defense of cities and strategic locations across France. They are characterized by their star-shaped designs, which allowed for better visibility and protection against attacks.
Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site, the fortifications include over 12 major sites, such as the cities of Belfort, Besançon, and Neuf-Brisach. Vauban's innovative techniques and designs significantly influenced military architecture and are still studied for their strategic importance today.
