Fort Union Trading Post
Fort Union Trading Post was established in 1828 along the confluence of the Missouri River and Fort Peck Lake in present-day North Dakota. It served as a vital trading hub for fur traders, Native Americans, and settlers, facilitating commerce between various cultures. The fort was strategically located to take advantage of the rich resources in the region.
The fort operated until 1867, playing a significant role in the American fur trade. Today, it is preserved as a National Historic Site, allowing visitors to explore its reconstructed buildings and learn about the history of trade and cultural exchange in the 19th century.
