Floyd Collins
Floyd Collins was an American cave explorer who became famous in 1925 when he became trapped in a cave in Kentucky. While exploring the Sand Cave, he became stuck after a rockfall blocked his exit. His plight captured national attention, leading to a massive rescue effort that included volunteers and media coverage.
Despite the extensive efforts to save him, Collins was unable to be rescued in time. He died after being trapped for over two weeks. His story highlighted the dangers of cave exploration and led to changes in safety practices for spelunkers and rescue operations in the years that followed.
