Flour Mite
The flour mite, scientifically known as Acarus siro, is a tiny arthropod commonly found in stored food products, particularly flour and grains. These mites are about 0.5 mm long and are usually white or light yellow in color. They thrive in warm, humid environments, making pantries and kitchens ideal habitats.
Flour mites feed on organic materials, including mold and decomposing food particles. While they are not harmful to humans, their presence can indicate poor food storage conditions. Properly sealing and storing food can help prevent infestations and maintain food quality.
