Floating Production Units
Floating Production Units (FPUs) are specialized vessels used in the offshore oil and gas industry to extract and process hydrocarbons from beneath the sea. These units are designed to remain afloat while performing various functions, including drilling, production, and storage of oil and gas. FPUs can be anchored to the seabed or allowed to drift with the currents, depending on their design and the environmental conditions.
There are different types of FPUs, such as Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) units, which combine production and storage capabilities. They play a crucial role in accessing underwater resources, especially in deepwater locations where traditional platforms are not feasible. FPUs help reduce the need for extensive underwater pipelines and infrastructure, making offshore operations more efficient.
