Flight 401
Flight 401 was a scheduled flight from New York City to Miami on December 29, 1972. Operated by Eastern Air Lines, the aircraft was a Lockheed L-1011 TriStar. Tragically, the flight crashed into the Everglades after the crew became distracted while troubleshooting a landing gear indicator light.
The accident resulted in the deaths of 101 people, making it one of the deadliest aviation disasters in U.S. history. The investigation revealed that the crew's focus on the malfunction led to a loss of situational awareness, ultimately causing the plane to descend below safe altitude.
