Flat Affect
Flat affect is a term used in psychology to describe a lack of emotional expression. Individuals exhibiting flat affect may show little to no facial expressions, gestures, or vocal tone changes, making it difficult for others to gauge their feelings. This condition can be associated with various mental health disorders, including schizophrenia and depression.
People with flat affect may still experience emotions internally, but their outward expressions do not reflect these feelings. This can lead to misunderstandings in social interactions, as others may perceive them as indifferent or unengaged. Treatment often focuses on addressing the underlying condition contributing to the flat affect.
