Flame Safety Lamp
A Flame Safety Lamp is a type of lamp designed to provide light in hazardous environments, particularly in coal mines. It uses a flame enclosed in a protective mesh to prevent the ignition of flammable gases, such as methane. The mesh cools the flame and allows safe illumination while minimizing the risk of explosions.
Invented by Sir Humphry Davy in 1815, the lamp revolutionized mining safety. The design ensures that the flame remains stable and does not ignite surrounding gases. This innovation significantly improved the safety of miners by allowing them to work in previously dangerous conditions with better visibility.
