Five Star Movement
The Five Star Movement (M5S) is an Italian political party founded in 2009 by comedian Beppe Grillo and web strategist Gianroberto Casaleggio. It emerged as a response to widespread dissatisfaction with traditional political parties, advocating for direct democracy, environmentalism, and anti-corruption measures. The party gained significant popularity through its use of the internet and social media to engage with voters.
In the 2013 general elections, the M5S became the largest party in the Italian Parliament, marking a shift in the political landscape. The party's platform includes issues like reducing public spending, promoting renewable energy, and implementing a basic income. Over the years, it has faced internal conflicts and challenges in maintaining its initial ideals.
