First Austrian Republic
The First Austrian Republic was established in 1918 after the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Empire at the end of World War I. It marked the transition of Austria from a monarchy to a democratic republic, with a new constitution adopted in 1920. The republic faced significant challenges, including economic difficulties and political instability.
During its existence, the First Austrian Republic was characterized by a struggle between various political factions, including the Social Democrats and Austrofascists. The republic ultimately ended in 1934 when it was replaced by an authoritarian regime, leading to the annexation of Austria by Nazi Germany in 1938.
