Ferrel cells
Ferrel cells are large-scale wind patterns found in the Earth's atmosphere, located between the Hadley cells and Polar cells. They typically extend from about 30 degrees to 60 degrees latitude in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. These cells are characterized by prevailing westerly winds that blow from the west to the east.
In the Ferrel cell, warm air rises at around 60 degrees latitude, creating low-pressure areas, while cooler air descends at about 30 degrees latitude, forming high-pressure zones. This circulation pattern plays a crucial role in influencing weather systems and climate in mid-latitude regions.
