Ferdinand Verbiest
Ferdinand Verbiest was a Flemish Jesuit missionary and astronomer born in 1623 in Belgium. He is best known for his work in China during the Qing Dynasty, where he contributed to the fields of astronomy and mathematics. Verbiest played a significant role in introducing Western scientific knowledge to China and was involved in the construction of astronomical instruments.
In addition to his scientific contributions, Verbiest was also a skilled diplomat. He served as an advisor to the Kangxi Emperor, helping to bridge cultural gaps between Europe and China.
