Fenton's Reagent
Fenton's Reagent is a chemical solution used primarily for the oxidation of organic compounds. It consists of a mixture of hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂) and iron(II) sulfate (FeSO₄). The iron acts as a catalyst, enhancing the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide to produce hydroxyl radicals, which are highly reactive and can break down various pollutants.
This reagent is commonly applied in environmental remediation, particularly for treating contaminated water and soil. By facilitating the breakdown of harmful substances, Fenton's Reagent helps in the detoxification process, making it an important tool in wastewater treatment and pollution control.
