Federal Security Services
The Federal Security Service (FSB) is the principal security agency in the Russian Federation. It is responsible for various functions, including counterintelligence, anti-terrorism, and border security. The FSB also investigates serious crimes and protects state secrets, playing a crucial role in maintaining national security.
Established in 1995, the FSB succeeded the KGB, the former Soviet Union's security agency. The organization operates under the jurisdiction of the President of Russia and works closely with other law enforcement agencies. Its activities are often shrouded in secrecy, reflecting its significant influence on Russian domestic and foreign policy.
