Feast of the Presentation of Jesus at the Temple
The "Feast of the Presentation of Jesus at the Temple," also known as the "Feast of the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary," is celebrated on February 2nd. This event commemorates the presentation of the infant Jesus in the Temple in Jerusalem, as described in the Gospel of Luke. According to Jewish law, Mary underwent purification after childbirth, and the family presented Jesus to God, fulfilling the requirements of the law.
During this feast, the significance of Simeon and Anna is highlighted. Simeon, a righteous man, recognized Jesus as the Messiah and proclaimed Him to be a light for revelation to the Gentiles. Anna, a prophetess, also acknowledged Jesus and spoke about Him to all who were waiting for the redemption of Jerusalem.
