Farrowing
Farrowing is the process in which a female pig, known as a sow, gives birth to a litter of piglets. This typically occurs after a gestation period of about 114 days. During farrowing, the sow will find a comfortable and safe place to deliver her young, often in a specially prepared area called a farrowing crate to protect the piglets.
After the piglets are born, they rely on their mother for nourishment through her milk. The farrowing process is crucial for the survival and health of the piglets, as they need to nurse soon after birth to receive essential nutrients and antibodies from the sow's milk.
