Farroupilha Revolution
The Farroupilha Revolution was a conflict that took place in southern Brazil from 1835 to 1845. It was primarily led by the people of the province of Rio Grande do Sul who sought greater autonomy from the central government in Rio de Janeiro. The revolutionaries, known as the Farroupilhas, aimed to establish a republic and address issues such as taxation and land rights.
The conflict began with the capture of the city of Porto Alegre and involved several battles between the rebels and government forces. The revolution ended with the signing of the Peace of Poncho Verde in 1845, which granted some concessions to the rebels but did not achieve full independence.
