Fante People
The Fante people are an ethnic group located in the coastal region of Ghana. They are part of the larger Akan ethnic group and primarily inhabit the Central and Western Regions. The Fante are known for their rich cultural heritage, including traditional music, dance, and colorful festivals. Their language, also called Fante, is a dialect of the Akan language.
Historically, the Fante were involved in trade along the coast and established several powerful states, such as the Fante Confederacy. They played a significant role in the transatlantic trade, particularly in the trade of palm oil and slaves. Today, the Fante people continue to celebrate their traditions while also engaging in modern economic activities.
