Fante Confederacy
The Fante Confederacy was a political alliance formed in the late 18th century among the Fante people in present-day Ghana. Established in 1868, it aimed to promote trade, security, and cooperation among the Fante states. The confederacy was a response to external pressures, including the influence of European powers and the threat of the Ashanti Empire.
The confederacy consisted of several coastal towns, including Cape Coast and Elmina. It played a significant role in regional politics and trade, particularly in palm oil and gold. The Fante Confederacy ultimately dissolved in the late 19th century due to internal conflicts and external pressures from the British colonial authorities.
