FIRST Robotics is a global program that engages students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) through hands-on robotics competitions. Founded in 1989 by Dean Kamen, the initiative aims to inspire young people to pursue careers in these fields by providing them with real-world engineering challenges.
Teams of students, often guided by mentors, design, build, and program robots to compete in various challenges. The competitions promote teamwork, problem-solving, and creativity, while also fostering a sense of community among participants. FIRST offers different levels of competition, including FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) for high school students and FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) for middle and high school students.
