F-105 Thunderchief
The F-105 Thunderchief, also known as the "Thud," was a supersonic jet fighter-bomber used by the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. Designed in the 1950s, it was primarily built for delivering nuclear weapons but later adapted for conventional bombing missions. The aircraft featured a distinctive, sleek design and was capable of flying at high speeds and altitudes.
Equipped with advanced avionics and a powerful engine, the F-105 could carry a significant payload of bombs and missiles. Despite its impressive capabilities, the Thunderchief faced challenges in combat, leading to a high loss rate during the Vietnam conflict. It was eventually retired in the 1980s, replaced by more advanced aircraft like the F-16 Fighting Falcon.
