European beach grass
European beach grass, scientifically known as Ammophila arenaria, is a hardy plant commonly found along sandy coastlines in Europe and North America. It plays a crucial role in stabilizing sand dunes, preventing erosion by anchoring the sand with its extensive root system. This grass thrives in well-drained, sandy soils and can tolerate salt spray from the ocean.
The plant typically grows in clumps and can reach heights of up to 1 meter (3 feet). Its long, narrow leaves are green to bluish-green, and it produces tall flower spikes that release seeds, helping it spread in coastal environments.
