European Woodcock
The European Woodcock is a medium-sized wading bird found across Europe and parts of Asia. It has a distinctive long bill, which it uses to probe the ground for earthworms and other invertebrates. The bird is known for its cryptic plumage, which helps it blend into its woodland habitat.
During the breeding season, the male performs a unique display flight to attract females. This involves flying high and then descending while making a series of calls. The European Woodcock typically nests on the ground, laying a small clutch of eggs that hatch after about three weeks.
