Eugène de Mazenod
Eugène de Mazenod was a French bishop and the founder of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate, a religious congregation established in 1816. Born on August 1, 1782, in Marseille, France, he dedicated his life to serving the poor and promoting the Catholic faith. His work focused on evangelization and education, particularly in Canada and the United States.
In 1837, he became the Bishop of Marseille, where he implemented significant reforms in the diocese. Eugène de Mazenod was canonized as a saint by Pope John Paul II in 1973, recognized for his commitment to the Church and his efforts to uplift marginalized communities.
