Ethiopian Scripts
Ethiopian scripts, primarily known as Ge'ez or Ethiopic, are a set of writing systems used in Ethiopia and Eritrea. They are derived from the ancient Ge'ez language, which is now primarily used in religious contexts. The script is syllabic, meaning each character represents a consonant-vowel combination, making it distinct from alphabetic systems.
The most widely used form of Ethiopian script today is the Fidel script, which consists of over 200 characters. It is employed for several languages, including Amharic, Tigrinya, and Oromo. The unique design of the characters reflects the rich cultural heritage of the region.
