Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front
The Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) was a political coalition in Ethiopia, formed in 1989. It consisted of several ethnic-based parties and played a significant role in overthrowing the Derg regime in 1991. The EPRDF governed Ethiopia for nearly three decades, promoting a federal system that aimed to give autonomy to various ethnic groups.
In 2018, the EPRDF dissolved and was replaced by the Prosperity Party, which aimed to unify the country under a single party. The EPRDF's legacy remains complex, as it is credited with economic growth but also criticized for human rights abuses and ethnic tensions during its rule.
