Ethiopian Federalism
Ethiopian Federalism is a political system established in 1995 that divides the country into regional states, each with its own government. This system aims to accommodate the diverse ethnic groups in Ethiopia by granting them autonomy and the right to self-governance. The federal structure is designed to promote unity while respecting the cultural and linguistic differences among the various communities.
The Constitution of Ethiopia outlines the powers and responsibilities of both the federal and regional governments. There are currently ten regional states, each based primarily on ethnic lines, which allows for local decision-making and representation. This approach seeks to balance national interests with regional identities.
