Epulones
The Epulones were a group of priests in ancient Rome responsible for overseeing the organization and conduct of public feasts and banquets. Their primary duty was to ensure that the religious ceremonies associated with these events were performed correctly, reflecting the importance of hospitality in Roman culture. They were part of the larger religious framework that included various priestly colleges.
Originally, the Epulones were established to assist the Pontifex Maximus, the chief priest of Rome, in managing the growing number of public festivals. Over time, their role expanded, and they became influential in the social and political life of the city, highlighting the connection between religion and public celebrations in Roman society.
