Enterobiasis
Enterobiasis, commonly known as pinworm infection, is caused by the parasite Enterobius vermicularis. This infection primarily affects children but can occur in individuals of any age. The pinworms are small, white, and thread-like, and they typically reside in the intestines. Symptoms often include itching around the anus, especially at night, and can lead to discomfort and sleep disturbances.
Transmission occurs through the ingestion of pinworm eggs, which can be found on contaminated surfaces, clothing, or hands. Good hygiene practices, such as regular handwashing and keeping fingernails short, are essential for prevention. Treatment usually involves over-the-counter or prescription medications that eliminate the worms from the body.
