Enkutatash
Enkutatash is the Ethiopian New Year, celebrated on September 11th (or September 12th in a leap year). It marks the end of the rainy season and the beginning of a new year in the Ethiopian calendar, which is about seven to eight years behind the Gregorian calendar. The day is filled with festivities, including family gatherings, feasting, and traditional music.
The celebration of Enkutatash is rooted in ancient traditions and is often associated with the biblical story of the Queen of Sheba. People dress in colorful attire, and children sing songs while visiting neighbors to receive gifts. It is a time of joy and renewal for many Ethiopians.
