English First Division
The English First Division, also known as the Football League First Division, was the top tier of professional football in England from its formation in 1888 until 1992. It was the first league competition in the world and featured clubs like Manchester United, Liverpool, and Arsenal. The league operated on a promotion and relegation system with the Football League Second Division.
In 1992, the Premier League was created, taking over as the top division of English football. The First Division then became the second tier, known as the Football League Championship. This change marked a significant shift in English football, leading to increased commercial success and global popularity.
