Football League First Division
The Football League First Division was the top tier of professional football in England from its formation in 1888 until 1992. It was established as part of the Football League, which was the first football league in the world. The First Division featured many of England's most famous clubs, including Manchester United, Liverpool, and Arsenal.
In 1992, the First Division was replaced by the Premier League, which became the new top tier of English football. This change was made to increase revenue and improve the quality of the game. The First Division then became the second tier, known as the Football League Championship.
