Enewetak Atoll
Enewetak Atoll is a group of islands located in the central Pacific Ocean, part of the Marshall Islands. It consists of 40 small islands and is known for its unique circular shape, surrounding a large lagoon. The atoll covers an area of about 2.5 square miles and is situated approximately 200 miles west of Kwajalein Atoll.
Historically, Enewetak Atoll was used as a testing site for nuclear weapons by the United States during the 1940s and 1950s. This led to significant environmental changes and the displacement of local populations. Today, efforts are ongoing to rehabilitate the area and study its ecological recovery.
